Introduction
RIYADH: Saudi Aramco has announced a series of major oil and gas discoveries in the Kingdom’s Eastern Province and the Empty Quarter, further reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a global energy powerhouse.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, who confirmed the discovery of six new oil fields, two oil reservoirs, two natural gas fields, and four gas reservoirs—underscoring the Kingdom’s expanding hydrocarbon reserves.
In the Eastern Province, the Jabu oil field was uncovered after very light Arab crude flowed from the Jabu-1 well at a rate of 800 barrels per day (bpd). At the Sayahid field, the Sayahid-2 well produced 630 bpd of very light crude, while the Ayfan-2 well at the Ayfan field yielded an impressive 2,840 bpd of very light crude alongside 0.44 million standard cubic feet (MMscf) of gas daily.
Additional exploration confirmed the Jubaila reservoir in the Berri field, with the Berri-907 well producing 520 bpd of light crude and 0.2 MMscf of gas per day. In the Mazalij field, the Unayzah-A reservoir at well Mazalij-64 produced 1,011 bpd of premium light crude, complemented by 0.92 MMscf of gas daily.
In the Empty Quarter, the Nuwayr field recorded production of 1,800 bpd of medium Arabian crude and 0.55 MMscf of gas from the Nuwayr-1 well. At the Damdah field, the Damda-1 well tapped into the Mishrif-C reservoir for 200 bpd of medium crude and the Mishrif-D reservoir for 115 bpd of very light crude. Meanwhile, the Qurqas-1 well at the Qurqas field delivered 210 bpd of medium crude.
On the natural gas front, significant discoveries were also made. In the Eastern Province, the Ghizlan-1 well in the Ghizlan field produced 32 MMscf of gas daily along with 2,525 barrels of condensate. At the Araam field, Araam-1 yielded 24 MMscf of gas per day and 3,000 barrels of condensate. Unconventional gas was identified in the Qusaiba reservoir at the Mihwaz field, where Mihwaz-193101 produced 3.5 MMscf daily with 485 barrels of condensate.
In the Empty Quarter, the Marzouq field delivered 9.5 MMscf per day from the Arab-C reservoir and 10 MMscf from the Arab-D reservoir, while the Upper Jubaila reservoir contributed an additional 1.5 MMscf per day from the same well.

Prince Abdulaziz highlighted the strategic importance of these discoveries, emphasizing that they will not only reinforce Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the global energy market but also expand the Kingdom’s hydrocarbon base.
These developments are expected to boost economic growth, enhance the Kingdom’s ability to meet domestic and international energy demand, and advance long-term sustainability. They also align with the goals of Vision 2030, which seeks to maximize the value of natural resources and ensure energy security worldwide.
